Our guide to office cleaning during and post Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Office buildings will need to be more wary than ever before about health and safety measures as we get to grips with the ‘new normal’ post Coronavirus not only in London, but in the rest of the country.

As the UK Government begins to reduce the restrictions on lockdown, constant cleaning and disinfecting in offices will become the norm to ensure the safety of workers.

Within offices, there are ‘high-touch’ surfaces that should be given extra attention to when it comes to cleaning. Surfaces such as light switches, door handles and kitchens areas will be some of those that will need to be given a lot of attention.

We have put together a list of instructions that office/ facilities managers can put in place to ensure members of staff are protected, as we resume business activities post Coronavirus:

  • Aside from their usual cleaning supplies, every employee must be given a kit that consists of face mask, disposable gloves, antibacterial cleaning wipes and hand sanitiser to protect themselves and those around them. We recommend products such as Dettol Surface Cleanser, which kills 99.9% of germs.
  • Rearrange desks and office layouts to ensure employees are able to keep a 2 metre distance at all times.
  • Wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds. For further guidance on hand washing, click here
  • Avoid shaking soft furnishings (mats, rugs cushions etc). These items can carry germs, and shaking them can contaminate surrounding areas.
  • Place hand sanitiser containers on easy-to-access points, and on multiple areas within the office. Examples include next to doors as you are about to enter a room, reception areas, toilets and kitchen areas.
  • Place signs and guidance reminding your employees to follow the Coronavirus protocol where possible.
  • Send regular email communications so that your employees are kept informed of all the steps that their employers are taking to safeguard them.
  • Be as flexible as you possibly can. Allow flexible working so that employees can continue to work from home where possible, or avoid rush the rush hour commute by either coming in earlier or later in the day.

LBS has cleaning experts on standby for regular Office and Deep Cleaning throughout London. With our own protocol in place that enables us to not only keep your office disinfected, but also that our members of staff are protected at all times while carrying the work.
